🏛️ Open Parliament — ask the Legislative Yuan's own records directly
Highlights
- 📄 Full-text search across the gazettes — the gazette is the Legislative Yuan's official verbatim record, covering floor and committee speeches, written motions, reports and appendices. Give it keywords and it returns the matching gazettes with surrounding context; when a hit falls inside a motion, it comes with the proposer, co-signers and caucuses. You can also restrict it to gazettes where a particular member spoke. The earliest gazette held is from November 2012 — the oldest machine-readable one the Legislative Yuan publishes; anything older exists only as scanned images. The early years are still being backfilled, and every response reports the range as it stands.
- 📖 Read the original — search returns excerpts, and what a motion actually asks for is usually written at the end of it ("freeze NT$1m, releasable only after a special report is submitted and accepted"), so an excerpt often stops before the ask. Hence a second tool that reads the original: give it the gazette id and a position and it quotes the whole motion verbatim, and tells you where to continue if there is more.
- 🧑💼 Legislator records — bills proposed and co-signed, interpellations, speeches, how they voted on the floor, floor attendance, and which laws they led amendments on. Pass only a term and you get that term's full roster, including replacements and members who have left.
- 📜 Legislative history and stated rationale — how a law changed at each revision, the reason given each time, how far the latest amendment has progressed, and who proposed it. Pass an article number for that article's successive texts and reasons.
- 🗳️ Floor votes — for a given bill: who voted for, who against, who abstained, and how each party voted.
- 📊 Rankings and side-by-side comparison — bills, co-signatures, speeches, votes cast, led amendments, attendance rate.
- ⚖️ The official record, and nothing added to it. A vote lookup lists every vote held that day on that bill — amendment motions, the motion to proceed to third reading, re-votes — rather than picking the one that tells a story; tallies on the same bill the same day often differ. Gazette excerpts are quoted verbatim, never rewritten, and because an excerpt can stop before the ask, the tools push you to read the whole motion before concluding anything. Rankings are counts from the official record, not a score for performance: on floor attendance in the 11th term, 70 members are tied for first place alone. What it means is left to the reader.
How to use it
- Get an API key from the dashboard. These tools are callable on the free plan; there is no separate plan gate.
- Connect Claude or another agent following the docs.
- An already-connected client has to reconnect once before it sees the new tools — the server does not push tool-list changes.
- Then just ask in plain language; the agent finds the right tool through
discover_tools.
